Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Books of the year so far (7/9/18)

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

These books were a very hard choice for me to make because I hit a lot of book slumps in 2018, but there are a couple of handfuls of some really great books that surprised me. I’m not linking back to my posts for now since this isn’t exactly a wrap up post, it’s a weekly top ten post.

1. Geekerella by Ashley Poston. I started this one Sunday and delayed doing my errands because I couldn’t stop reading this book. I also walked around Costco with my family the next night and finished reading it. It was obviously a five star read. It also reminded me of one of my favorite Another Cinderella Story movies with Selena Gomez in it.

2. Bookish Boyfriends by Tiffany Schmidt… this book almost convinced me to read Pride and Prejudice….a classic. That has to count for something since I never want to read a classic just because. This was one of the first advanced reader copy books I really enjoyed this year. I still really want to own this in paperback sometime.

3. Love Songs & Other Lies by Jessica Pennington is another advanced reader copy book I got this year that I really enjoyed. It was a cute summer read that would definitely be perfect to read while at the beach or on a trip somewhere.  It’s another advanced reader copy that I want to have in hardback form. It was a five star read.

4. The Wicked Deep by Shea Ernshaw. I was reaaaaaaallly worried about how I would like this book. It has so many mixed reviews, but I bought the ebook back in March and I read it in one 24 hour time frame. I am really excited that it will be a Netflix tv show sometime, though I am curious to see how they will stretch it out to be a tv show. Most people that have been following me for awhile know how I tend to go against books that have mixed reviews or are really popular. I pretty much knew I couldn’t go too wrong with a book that was similar to Hocus Pocus.

5. The Hate You Give by Angie Thomas. One of my old coworkers actually recommended this book to me last year sometime, but I tend to stay away from popular books. She also recommended The Fault in Our Stars and I still haven’t read that book. The hype from this book scared me, especially when people were saying that they could see this book really and truly being a classic some day. WELL. I read the book and I totally saw what everybody was talking about. PLUS the movie trailer looks AWESOME!!

6. Just one of the royals by Kate and Leah Rooper. This book had hockey in it, and it was similar to Princess Diaries….plus Leah and Kate Rooper are some of my favorite authors and I just like their writing style. I knew I was going to like this book when I requested this on Netgalley, and I did! It was a five star read. 

7.  Falling For Her Soldier by Ophelia London…. this was one of the books that also started my romance/wedding romance mode.  It also had dancing in it… I love stuff with dancing in it almost as much as hockey stuff.

8. Love & Luck by Jenna Evans Welch…. can’t go too wrong with a book that takes place in Ireland and it’s pretty much the Lizzie Mcguire movie almost in Ireland. 

9. Daughter of the Siren Queenby Tricia Levenseller. Oh, look. A fantasy. I really liked Daughter of the Siren Queen. I may have liked it more than the first book. I just liked the plot, the characters. I also bought this ebook but may have to buy the paperback or hardback someday. 10. Legendary by Stephanie Garber. This is listed last because this one surprised me the most. I didn’t think I would enjoy this one since I seemed to have missed the magic of Caraval in the first book… but whatever it was that I missed in the first book came alive to me in the second one. I’ve been telling everybody how shocking it is that I enjoyed a fantasy book so much. Aside from Harry Potter, fantasy normally isn’t something I go for.
