Jack Ellison King. King of Almost.

He almost made valedictorian.

He almost made varsity.

He almost got the girl . . .

When Jack and Kate meet at a party, bonding until sunrise over their mutual love of Froot Loops and their favorite flicks, Jack knows he’s falling—hard. Soon she’s meeting his best friends, Jillian and Franny, and Kate wins them over as easily as she did Jack. Jack’s curse of almost is finally over.

But this love story is . . . complicated. It is an almost happily ever after. Because Kate dies. And their story should end there. Yet Kate’s death sends Jack back to the beginning, the moment they first meet, and Kate’s there again. Beautiful, radiant Kate. Healthy, happy, and charming as ever. Jack isn’t sure if he’s losing his mind. Still, if he has a chance to prevent Kate’s death, he’ll take it. Even if that means believing in time travel. However, Jack will learn that his actions are not without consequences. And when one choice turns deadly for someone else close to him, he has to figure out what he’s willing to do—and let go—to save the people he loves.

My review:

I was super excited when my library got me the ebook of Opposite of Always by Justin Reynolds I believe his last name is. I spent an hour just staring at the cover on my tablet, even though I don’t read books on my tablet and then I took a photo of it and put it on Instagram and stared at the photo on Instagram for an hour. I was smitten by the cover.

The book started off very strong. I liked Jack’s voice and the beginning was well done, it definitely had me curious. I think I began to loose interest in it though by the time the second or third traveling in time thing happened.

I also ended up liking most of the character’s except for Jack. He had good intentions, but Jack seemed to be toxic for himself and others with how often he let people down and disappointed everybody close to him.  I ended up caring more about Franny and Jillian and they are most of the reason why I actually finished the book.

This book is a three star rating because it had so much potential, but it still had good side characters. It could still work for you, it is definitely a popular book in young adult right now.
