Finale (Caraval #3) by Stephanie Garber (Goodreads Author)

Welcome, welcome to Finale, the third and final book in the #1 New York Times bestselling Caraval series!

Welcome, welcome to Caraval…all games must come to an end.

It’s been two months since the last Caraval concluded, two months since the Fates have been freed from an enchanted deck of cards, two months since Tella has seen Legend, and two months since Legend claimed the empire’s throne as his own. Now, Legend is preparing for his official coronation and Tella is determined to stop it. She believes her own mother, who still remains in an enchanted sleep, is the rightful heir to the throne.

Meanwhile, Scarlett has started a game of her own. She’s challenged Julian and her former fiancé, Count Nicolas d’Arcy, to a competition where the winner will receive her hand in marriage. Finally, Scarlett feels as if she is in complete control over her life and future. She is unaware that her mother’s past has put her in the greatest danger of all.

Caraval is over, but perhaps the greatest game of all has begun―with lives, empires, and hearts all at stake. There are no spectators this time: only those who will win…and those who will lose everything. . .

My review:

Some of you may already know this, but I had a bit of a rocky start with this series. I didn’t like Caraval as much as other people did, but I took a chance and read Legendary last year and I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!!! That was one of the biggest shocks for me with books in 2018.

So naturally I was dying to have Finale in my hands… not literally dying, but I just REALLY had to have it, I was super excited for it. I did summoning circles posts on Twitter and all. I like to think that actually worked because Netgalley ACTUALLY approved me for this beautiful, beautiful ARC. I mean, just look at that stunning cover. Isn’t it just BEAUTIFUL? I could stare at it for hours. I actually did, which is why I took a photo for Instagram. It’s literally my favorite cover out of all three books.

Anyway, enough gushing about the cover.

There’s actually not a lot to be said about Finale….not because it’s not good. It IS good. There’s just only so many ways you can say, “Read this book because it’s so good.”

It’s beautiful. Magical. Enchanting. Dark. Tragic. It’s a map of all of these words rolling into one.

I loved the characters in this book. I loved that the chapters were divided between Scarlett and Tella. I liked both story lines in the book and the plot with the Fates which might be a spoiler so I’m not going into much detail there.

I’m definitely a Tella and Legend fan, that was most of the reason why I loved Legendary so much.

I actually wished I had reread the first two books before reading Finale because I think that would have helped me get into the story a bit more again, but that didn’t matter too much.

This was a 4.5 star rating originally so I rounded it up to the five star rating since I think it deserved that rating. I definitely recommend the series as a whole for any young adult fantasy lover. This whole series is just magical. Thank you Netgalley and publishers for allowing me to read and review this book. This had no impact on my thoughts, my thoughts are my own.

Have you read these books yet? What’s your favorite Caraval series book by Stephanie Garber?

  1. Wonderful review. I have yet to read this series. Sometimes, well more often than not actually, I wait for new series to be out in their entirety before I read them. That way, if I really love them I don’t have to wait a year or more for the next book to come out and in that time forget half of what I read.

    1. Thanks! I had actually been curious about this book ever since I saw a group read it at my old work place. (I wasn’t able to join that reading group because I had to work that day they met, but oh well!) That was the main reason why I got into it before it was finished. But I understand, lots of people are like this.

  2. I had a similar experience with this series! I tried reading Caraval a year or two ago and didn’t really like it. But I just binge-read the whole series last month and now I’m in love! Legendary and Finale officially hooked me.
