With the Fire on High by Elizabeth Acevedo (Goodreads Author)
My review:
This was another beautifully written story. I really liked the pace and how it was written. The main character’s voice for the whole thing just flowed and it was relatable and honest and I think that made the story.
Things I liked:
-The character’s voice was really easy to get into.
-I liked the plot. It was different from most young adult books.
-I liked how loyal all of the characters were toward one another.
I’d recommend With the Fire on the high to the older high school crowd. This was a five out of five star read because of the plot, flow, writing style, and characters. This was a library ebook.
Risking It All by S.M. Koz (Goodreads Author)
Paige knows exactly what she wants—to graduate from Wallingford Academy and become a pilot in the US Air Force. She’s inherited her father’s no-nonsense attitude and whip-smart intelligence, all of which have made her the perfect Wallingford cadet.
Logan has spent the last five years doing as little as possible. Once a star basketball player and one of the most popular boys at school, he now spends his days playing video games. When a friend borrows his car and commits a crime, Logan takes the fall and ends up at Wallingford as part of his court order.
When Paige is asked to mentor Logan, it’s the perfect opportunity to prove her leadership skills—but she doesn’t account for the feelings that start to develop or the baggage from Logan’s past which could threaten her future.
My review
-Risking it all was a unique read to me because it took place at a military academy and that was a different type of setting for me.
-Unpopular opinion time…. let’s face it, I always will have the unpopular opinion. I did not think that Logan was a jerk. I think his actions were pretty well justified because he took the fall for a friend and they pretty much stuck their nose up at him even though it was her fault he was there in the first place. He had to face unnecessary consequences, and let’s be real…. it’s not cool to face punishments if you didn’t commit the crime.
-I’m actually surprised Logan wasn’t even more of a jerk. Yes, he was demeaning at times but that’s how teenager guys are sometimes.
-I also really ended up liking Paige’s best friend Alex because of the stuff he did that would be a spoiler if I mentioned it here.
-The ending made the story, I really liked the way everybody ended up being there when one of the cadets was in trouble. I say this in a lot of my reviews, but character loyalty is pretty important.
-This story did have a slow start and it was hard to get through sometimes but around 40 percent through I finally got into it and it made a good turnaround for me. This is a four out of five star rating. Oh and it’s worth noting that this was an enemies to lovers book which is one of my favorite tropes. I actually bought this ebook.

Thanks for sharing. Do you have any summer book recommendations?

I loved both these books. Emoni was an incredible character and I admired her attempting to do it all at such a young age. That scene, in the courtroom – OMG! I had like a feelsplosion during that. I adored Risking It All, and yeah, I was not that put off by Logan either, and I liked that Alex was able to redeem himself.

I really liked Emoni too. And loved the courtroom scene. I wasn’t expecting that at all.

A Fire on High is on my TBR list and I can’t wait to read it. I love a good foodie story ❤ I've never heard of Risking it all but I'm a sucker for the enemies to lovers trope so this sounds like something I'd enjoy 🙂 Great reviews!
